PRP for Cardiothoracic

Cardiothoracic Surgery refers to surgeons who specialize in operations on the heart and blood vessels to prevent or repair damage caused by clogged arteries, heart attacks or birth defects.

One major problem that a patient can acquire from certain cardiothoracic procedures is called a sternal wound infection, or mediastenitis.  This is a devastating infection that can cause death if not treated immediately.

This infection alone can cost a hospital several hundred thousand dollars to treat.  Applying platelet rich plasma to the sternal wound while closing can significantly reduce the incidence of acquiring mediastenitis.

We will post more information on PRP for Cardiothoracic here when it becomes available.
