What was your injury that was treated with prp?
It was a deep pelvic tear of some kind that happenend inn the run portion of a triathlon. So far up and in that they were unable to define it exactly.
Did you try any other therapy before you opted for prp treatment?
Stretching, rest, ice.
Why did your physician decide to utilize prp for this injury?
Nothing else was helping and I wanted healing not the band-aid approach of a cortizone shot.
What medical facility did your physician perform this treatment? Hospital? Physician clinic?
In his office.
Did your physician have you follow a specific protocol the night before your prp treatment?
Nope it was life as usual.
Do you remember how much blood was drawn from you? After they drew the blood, how long did you have to wait before the platelet rich plasma was ready for use on your injury?
One small syringe about 1″ X 3 ” , it took about 9 minutes to spin out.
What did the physician do to prepare the injury site for injection?
Cleaned it thoroughly.
Did the physician use ultrasound as a guide to place the platelet rich plasma?
No, he relied on my demonstrating exactly where the “hurt” was and went in there.
How did the injection feel? The plazma hurt going in. Explain. And do you remember how long the prp treatment took? The injection took only a minute or two. If you had pain, how long did the pain last?
Didn’t hurt after he was done injecting. Any swelling? No swelling only a tiny bit of blood at the injection site.
How long did the entire visit take?
45 mins.
After treatment, did your physician wrap the treatment site? If not, what did he do post treatment?
Not wrapped as it was in a tricky spot. Only ice or advil if there was discomfort but there was not.
What was your physicians post prp treatment protocol for you?
Restrictions? lay low for a day or two Rest? yes. Exercise? No running for a few days. Stretching? continuing to stretch Pain medication? nope. Any specific directions you had to follow?

Did insurance cover?
Only some of it as PRP is still considered “alternative” therapy even though it works much better than cortizone in the long run.
Did the treatment work for you?
Yes. After 6b months of no improvement I healed up about 85 %.
If so, when did you start feeling better?
Within 2 weeks most of the healing was done.
How soon could you bet back to playing your sport?
2 weeks.
Other comments or thoughts about your prp experience?
Not sure what needs to be done to get the medical community to embrace this therapy and have it covered by insurance, but whatever needs to be done, let’s do it!!!
