PRP Patient Experience for Sprains & Strains

Here at PRPTreatments.org we strive to bring you the best information related to platelet rich plasma treatments.  Part of that is taking the time to gather patient experiences.  A patient experience is when a patient has PRP Treatment.  We give them a set of questions and get answers back in return.

The following (first ever) PRP patient experience is courtesy of a mid-aged male who hat PRP Treatment for a tendon strain.

What was your injury that was treated with prp?

I was treated for a Posterior tendon strain injury/inflammation.

Why did your physician decide to utilize prp for this injury?

I am a marathon runner and I wanted to recover sooner from this injury.

What medical facility did your physician perform this treatment?

This treatment was performed in the physician clinic.

Did your physician have you follow a specific protocol the night before your prp treatment?

I was not required to follow any specific protocol for this treatment the night before my injection.

Do you remember how much blood was drawn from you? After they drew the blood, how long did you have to wait before the platelet rich plasma was ready for use on your injury?

The nurse drew 10 cc’s of blood from my arm, similar to when you go in for a routine blood draw. The blood was then placed in a centrifuge to separate the blood components. I did not wait very long at all for the platelet rich plasma to be prepared.

What did the physician do to prepare the injury site for injection?

Locally cleaned and numbed the area..

Did the physician use ultrasound as a guide to place the platelet rich plasma?

My physician did not use ultrasound to guide the PRP to my injury.

How did the injection feel? Explain. And do you remember how long the prp treatment took? If you had pain, how long did the pain last? Any swelling?

The PRP injection did not hurt very much, just stung a bit. I did not have any significant swelling following the injection.

After treatment, did your physician wrap the treatment site? If not, what did he do post treatment?

I was placed in a walking boot after the prp injection. I have to wear the boot for a total of one month.

What was your physicians post prp treatment protocol for you? Restrictions? Rest? Exercise? Stretching? Pain medication? Any specific directions you had to follow?

My physician strongly recommended a fair amount of rest. I am allowed to do light stretching exercises, seated leg exercises, and I’m also allowed to swim. It has been a few days since my prp injection therapy and I’m not experiencing very much pain from the treatment.

How much was the prp treatment?

$850.00
