In the United States, chronic non-healing wounds affect nearly 6 million patients annually. A non-healing, or chronic wound, is characterized as a wound that shows little or know improvement after four weeks or does not heal in 8 weeks.
The risk of infection is magnified with a non-healing wound, which could possibly lead to more serious conditions. People with diabetes, have circulatory problems, or have a compromised immune system are at greater risk to acquire non-healing chronic wounds.
